Teaching Ideas: |
Based on some of her childhood experiences, Polacco's Chicken Sunday can elicit discussions on prejudice and misunderstanding, on love and acceptance--especially among ethnicities and races, and on the way communities can divide and heal. Teachers may want to ask why Polacco juxtaposed realistic photographs with whimsical faces and objects. This is a wonderful book to read aloud or to use with other books about communities, such as Levine's Pearl Moscowitz.
