Summary:
In the 1930's Lewis Micheaux Sr. started a bookstore in Harlem and named it the National Memorial African Bookstore. The bookstore fostered new ideas and helped people stand up for what they believed in. This inspirational book tells the story of a man who wanted to change the world through books. His bookstore carried the largest collection of African and African American related books in the world and was visited by authors, poets and people of all political persuasions.

Teaching Ideas:
Research and write about some of the prominent figures who visited the bookstore. Students create posters with slogans about reading and books and success.
