Description
Designed to give new instructional staff knowledge and information for practical implementation within Aspire classrooms, this face-to-face session builds on the NTO online course featuring the must-know topics for new teachers, including:
  • Adult Learning Theory
  • Orientation
  • Planning Instruction
  • Teaching & Learning
  • Managing Instruction
  • Monitoring Performance
  • Professional Support

This face-to-face session is customized for ABE/ASE instruction. The session explores the must know topics more deeply in order to identify strategies and resources specific to the content area of ABE/ASE. New ABE/ASE teachers should attend this session.

All new instructors are required to complete this orientation within one year of hire. Based on the role in Aspire, new teachers should attend either NTO for ABE/ASE or NTO for ESOL.

Prerequisites: Participants must complete both of the following before attending this session:
  1. the three-hour New Staff Orientation (NSO) online course
  2. the three-hour New Teacher Orientation (NTO) 1 of 2 online course.

Participants are encouraged to bring the following documents from the NTO Online Course to the face to face training:
  • KWL chart
  • Learning Styles Inventory
  • Teaching Styles Assessment
