Title: Subject/Verb Agreement
Learner Level: GED
Pre-Instruction: 1. The teacher will review basic computer and Internet skills. 2. The students will take an online pretest to determine their strengths and weaknesses in using subject/verb agreement. They will use the web site, http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/sensen/part2/twelve/agreement_pretest.html.
Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes – may be done in four, forty-minute sessions
Materials: computers, handout of the subject/verb agreement rules, Study Guide of Sentence Sense, and the following web sites: Sentence Sense - http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/sensen/index.html Sentence Sense: Subject/Verb Agreement – http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/sensen/part2/twelve/index.html
Objectives: The student will identify the subjects of sentences and choose the forms of verbs that agree with those subjects.
Procedure: 1. A handout containing basic rules of subject/verb agreement with be distributed. The students will mark the ones they answered incorrectly on the pretest. 2. The students will go to the web site, http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/sensen/part4/navigation.html, and read the instructions on how to navigate the Sentence Sense web site. 3. Using the pretest results, the students will work only on the sections in Chapter 12 where the pretest indicated a weakness.
