Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom: Final Activity

 

Title: Measurement

Learner Level: GED

 

Pre-Instruction: Set up computer lab. Distribute copies of McGraw-Hill’s “GED”,

                           1. pp. 183-193. 2. pp. 194-196.

Duration: 90 minutes. Can be done as small sections.     

     

Materials:

Pencils, paper, PowerPoint projector (if available), or blackboard, or overhead, computers, Internet connections, rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and tape measure.

 

Objectives:

Students will learn to use different measuring tools and how to compare Customary (English) measuring system to metric system.  

                           

Procedure:

  1. Use blackboard and/or overhead and measuring instruments to demonstrate and discuss similarities and differences. Discuss where each system might be used. Review all nomenclature.

  2. As a class, go to the Mathematics Section of http://www.floridatechnet.org/GED/LessonPlans/Lessons.htm. Review “Lesson 5- Measuring”. Work all examples.

  3. Discuss with class to assure understanding. Have students work through the McGraw-Hill handout (pp. 183-193. After all have finished, as a class, work through the problems to assure understanding.

Evaluation:

Distribute copies of handout (pp. 194-196. Collect and review either Individually, or as a class (depending upon class size).
