Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom

 

Title:                     Gettysburg

 

Learner Level:     High school, Adults

 

Pre-Instruction:

  • 1 - Background to the American Civil War - major players, battles, issues that led up to it. 

  • 2. How to use the internet   

  • 3. How to search the web

Duration:             1 week to 10 days in High school, 1 week adult education

 

Materials:

  • Computer with word processing program

  • Internet acces

  • DVD or VHS player

  • Movie Gettysburg

Objectives:         

  • Students will see Gettysburg is a place not just a footnote to history.

  • They will be able to read about the battle, look at pictures, see Gettysburg today.

  • The students will also watch a movie about Gettysburg they will see what Hollywood said.

Procedure:

  • The first thing students will do is go to the National Park website http://www.nps.gov/gett/and read more information about Gettysburg.

  • Secondly they will go to http://www.gettysburg.com.vistor/booklet/member!htmto get more information about the battle and look at pictures of it. They need to read all the information on the battle.

  • Thirdly, the students need to us a search to find a web site on Gettysburg (this should be easy there are thousands of hits)

  • Then as a class we will watch the movie Gettysburg.

                          

Evaluation:          

After watching Gettysburg the students will word process a four page paper on what they learned about Gettysburg from the readings and the movie. What were the differences?
