|
Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom - Final Activity
Title: Finding employment and preparing for an interview
Learner Level: GED students
Pre-Instruction: Instructor and students will determine where and how to look for available positions (i.e., classified ads, various websites, employment agencies – private and public, contacting friends, neighbors and families). Class will discuss dressing for an interview, preparing a resume, and how to present themselves to a potential employer.
Duration: 8 hours (in two-hour sessions for 4 days)
Materials: Computers, floppy disk.
Objectives: To teach students how to find employment and the proper way to apply, interview and dress when seeking employment.
Procedure: Students will determine what type of employment they are seeking. Each student will use the Internet to research classified ads, employment agencies and websites (www.cvsd.com, www.ci.chino-valley.az.us) of organizations within the community to locate potential positions. When each student has selected a position, he or she will download the application (if available) and fill it out on the computer. If the application is not available for downloading, they will contact the organization and obtain an application. Using Microsoft Word or other available word processing program, they will prepare a letter of interest and a resume.
Evaluation: Students will come to class dressed and prepared for an interview. Students will bring their prepared applications, letters of interest and resumes. Under the supervision of the instructor, students will interview each other. Upon completion of interviews, students will use power point presentations to evaluate each other’s application, letter, resume and the interview. The instructor will give written comments to all students regarding their applications, resumes, letters, appearance, and how they presented themselves during the interview.
