Learner Level:     12th Grade Interdisciplinary Course

 

Pre-Instruction Text  Materials: 

“ The Imperial Governor " by George Shipway

"Nero’s Killing Machine, A Study of the 14th Gemina Legion" by Steven Dando

Duration:          6 Week Project

 

Materials:

Textbook, lecture and project preparation. Student has the option of making a presentation in Power Point, listing effective Troop Strengths in Excel, or presentation in Microsoft Word of traditional term paper .

Objectives: 

The student will actively engage in a historical event and will be able to make decisions based upon available extant data.   Through the use of textual materials, as well as on-line resources, the student will be actively engaged and motivated by the assignment.

 

Procedure: 

AD 168, You Are There !! YOU are a serving Staff Intelligence Office , in Roman Occupied Britain, Your immediate commander is Imperial Governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus.  At this time Queen Bouedicia and 230,000 of her British warriors are revolting (we knew they were revolting, but now they are rebelling, too.)  Gen Paulinus has tasked you with the assignment of identifying, locating and creating a database of all existing Roman Forces in Britain.  

 

You have the following sources at hand to guide you in your search:

 

You may then, after assembling your data, elect to present them to the Governor and his staff ( ie. The rest of the class) in one of  three ways.

  1. Power Point Presentation

  2. An assembled and integrated Excel Presentation of a Database, showing Effective  Troop Availability, relative strengths, under-strengths, current deployment and war fighting capabilities.

  3. Traditional MS-Word Presentation listing the same criteria previously mentioned.

 

Assessment & Evaluation:

The project will be evaluated upon:

1. Fulfillment of the guidelines listed for the research.

2. Utilization of  Arizona State Standards for writing, the 6 Traits Rubric.
