Title:                     Resume Writing Using Microsoft Resume Wizard

 

Learner Level:     Intermediate –Adult Secondary

 

Pre-Instruction:     Basic computer skills. Microsoft Word

                          

Duration: 

  • Paper and Pencil resume - 20 minutes

  • Resume Wizard - 40 min. -1 hour

Materials:             Resume worksheet, pencils, computer, printer

 

Objectives:

  • The learner will develop an accurate resume

  • The learner will become proficient with Microsoft Resume Wizard 

Procedure: 

Students will first complete a paper and pencil resume worksheet.  Using information from that sheet, students will use Microsoft Resume Wizard to complete, save, and print a resume. (Paper and pencil resume worksheets is primarily geared for students with beginning computer skills, skip this worksheet if you feel that your students will not need it.).

  1. Distribute a sample resume. Ask students if they have ever used or needed a resume. Share resume stories 

  2. Introduce the activity. Students will fill out the paper and pencil resume worksheet. 

  3. Demonstrate how to open MS Word:

    1. Click on the MS icon

  4. Demonstrate how to open the MS Resume Wizard:

    1. Click on File New, General Templates, Other Documents,   Resume Wizard

  5. When Resume Wizard appears, click on next Click on Contemporary Click on Entry Level.

  6. Demonstrate the proper use of the cancel, back, next and finish tabs. (Note: Before class, you may want to create a class folder, and have students periodically save their resumes)  Using their resume worksheet as a guide, have students complete each section of the resume wizard. Assist students as needed

  7. Demonstrate how to use the spacebar, shift and back keys.

  8. Demonstrate how to print resumes.

    1. Click on Printer icon or Click on File and drag down to print. When the box appears, click on the word OK in the lower right hand corner.

  9. Exit Resume Wizard and MS Word

Evaluation:        Instructor will review resume will be for accuracy, neatness etc.
