Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom Final Activity

 

Title:                    Get to know your community! Find appropriate resources for Fieldtrips.

 

Learner Level:    Beginning to Advanced

           

Pre-Instruction:   Introduction to the Internet/Basic Internet Use/ How to use Search Engines

           

Duration:             1 hour

 

Materials:            Notepads, pencils, computers with internet access

 

Objectives: 

  • The learner will familiarize herself with the use if the Internet to search for information relevant to her needs.

  • Locate community resources in her community suitable for fieldtrips.

  • Reinforce advances in reading and writing skills by using information on the Internet to learn more about her area.

Procedure:

The learner will explore in general the kinds of resources available in many communities (for example, museums, bed and breakfast facilities, USS Batfish, parks, etc.).

 

The learner will prepare a list of community resources suitable for a class field trip.

Using an Internet search engine, the learner will locate the Web site for a local chamber of commerce, museum, visitor’s bureau, etc.

 

For each community resource, the learner will collect the following information-name of resource, address, telephone number, web site, hours of operation, cost of admission, etc.   

 

Evaluation: 

The instructor will review the following:

The learner’s list of community resources she plans to visit.

The learner’s list of community resource information prepared using a Word Processing application.
