Classroom Performance System (using software that allows the student to use a “clicker” to answer questions on a television screen, The Study Place, mouse, and Microsoft Word, printed materials.

Objectives:

Students will gain an understanding of major health issues and ways to deal with those issues in real-life situations.

Procedure:            Discussion with students in a general way the specific issues to be addressed.

Students go to The Study Place, and then the CBD Health, where they will have several lessons, each with three parts.

  1. The first part is a reading assignment, which can be a printed article or a site on the internet (specified in the assignment; however, due to changes in Web sites, at times may require searching the internet).

  2. The second part is questions and answers.

  3. The third part is one or two paragraphs on the topic under discussion, with directions on exactly what to write about.  The students would copy and paste this to Word, make corrections, and then copy and paste back to The Study Place.  The questions and answers are scored and e-mailed immediately upon completion to give instant feedback.  The written assignment is e-mailed upon completion and assessed by the teacher.

Evaluation:

The Classroom Performance System would be utilized to ask questions based on the material studied.  These questions would be about real-life situations and what can be done to deal with them. A further evaluation could be done by having the students write an essay about what they learned in the course.
