Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom Final Activity

 

Title:                   Fractions—what are they?

 

Learner Level:   Pre GED—CASAS level 3

 

Pre-Instruction: 

Discussion:

1.   Understanding and using fractions. What are they and why are they difficult? 

2.  Review Internet use.

Duration:           2 hours

 

Materials:         Computer, pencil, math notebooks

 

Objectives:        Students will be able to visualize fractions with two visual models: circle and line.

 

Procedure:         Go to http://www.visualfractions.com/index.htm

 

You will do both tutorials before checking your progress. 

 

  1. After clicking on your choice, read the instructions at the bottom of the page and proceed. 

  2. Do 10 examples in fractions with lines and 10 examples in fractions with circles.

  3. After each problem, click OK and then, new example if you are correct.  

  4. If you are stumped, click on Explain.  After you finish with your 10 examples, print a report. 

  5. When you have completed this, go back to the homepage, click on identify fractions and click on Find Grampy

  6. When you have completed this exercise, print a report and turn it in.

 

Evaluation:      

Find Grampy, the built in evaluation.  If students are successful, we will move on.  If not, we will spend more time practicing.
