Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom
Title: Fractions in Everyday Living Learner Level: Level 5-7
Pre-Instruction: How to type a document in Microsoft Word, use and become familiar with items to display different concepts of fractions in everyday living, i.e., pizza, pie, money, etc.
Duration: Two weeks
Materials: computer, printer, printer paper, visual items for fractional concepts
Objectives: Instruct and/or reinforce the student’s concept of the use of fractions in everyday living Using internet exploration, a software package and the creation of student worksheets.
Procedure: Students will be involved as follows:
Group project – A team of three learners will conduct research on the internet to find uses of fractions in everyday living. The learners are to compare and contrast the information found, then type up the data in chart from using Microsoft Word.
Internet-based software – Skills Tutor will be used by the learners to expose them to fractional concepts and the use of fractions in everyday living.
Development of worksheets – Students will develop a worksheet of five problems using fractional concepts in everyday living. They will use the site http://www.edhelper.com to assist them in their worksheet development.
Evaluation: The instructor will design an assessment for the three activities in which the students are engaged. A minimum of 80% achievement will be considered mastery.
