Title:                      How To Write An Essay

Learner Level:      Adult (Intermediate)   

   

Pre-Instruction: 

Contemporary Language Arts-Writing GED Book, PBS(KTA) Language Arts/writing Video, various CD-ROMS

                          

Duration:              Introduction:  2 - 3  hours;  Writing, revision and publishing:  2 - 3  hours      

Materials:           

Computer, Microsoft Word, internet, writing rubric, web sites, samples of  poor,

average, and good essays.

 

Objective:  To be able to write an accurately, constructed essay using the writing rubric guidelines.  

     

Procedure: 

1. Each student will correct, one at a time, a poor, an average, and a good essay sample.             

2.  The corrected essay will then be discussed by the group.

3.  The writing rubric will be presented during the discussion period.

4.  The 5  Paragraph Essay (with other sites) will be introduced and discussed.

5.  Each student will be given a topic to write on.

6.  Using Word, each student will make an outline.

7.  The student will write first draft of essay.

8.  With self-evaluation (using the tools provided) the student will make corrections and re-write essay.

9.  The essay will be completed, published, and handed in for evaluation

 

Evaluation:  Student and Instructor evaluation using the writing rubric.
