Computer-based Lesson Plans: Element Brochure by Karen White

 

Title:                Element Brochure

 

Learner Level:  Middle-High School

 

Pre-Instructions: 

  • Discuss the Periodic Table of Elements and explain how to read the information on the table.

  • Students will be shown examples of Element brochures made by previous classes.

  • Discuss basic instructions on typing URLs.

 

Duration:  1-2 Hours class time, 1 week homework assignment

 

Materials: 

Instruction handout with visual aid, Internet, construction paper, printer paper, pen or pencil for taking notes.

 

Objectives: 

  • Students will become familiar with information on the periodic table.

  • Students will use their knowledge later to take the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).

Procedure: 

1. Students will be given a hand-out and visual aid explaining the project in detail.

2. Class will go over and discuss expectations and requirements.

3. Students will be directed to use the following sites for material: 

                   www.webelements.com

                   www.chemicalelements.com

                   www.chemsoc.org/viselements/pages/periodic_table.html

4. Class will go to the Media center for 1-2 class periods to look up information

5. Completion of the brochure will be done outside of school as a homework assignment.

Evaluation: 

Students will present completed projects to class. Students will also be assessed on meeting criteria for the assignment.
