Integrating Computer Technology into the Classroom - Final Activity

 

 

Title:                   Creating Your Resume & Posting Your Resume to Caljobs

Learner Level:   Adult

Pre-Instruction:  Students will have been given a computer skills assessment and basic instruction in word processing using Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer usage.  Students will have been instructed in how to register with the Employment Development Department, (EDD) web site at www.caljobs.ca.gov

                          

Duration:             Two morning class sessions, (8 hours).

Materials:            Example resumes from previous students, Resume checklist, Computer, 3.5" floppy disk.

 

Objectives:         Students will be able to:

1)      Utilize current word processing software, (Microsoft Word).

2)      Create a resume to be used in their job search efforts.

3)      Post their resume on the EDD website, (Caljobs).

 

Procedure:         Students will look through previous students’ example resumes in an effort to avoid “reinventing the wheel”.  This will speed up the process in creating their resume.  Students will rough draft their ideas on paper then open Microsoft Word and begin typing their resume. 

 

                           Saving, formatting, editing and printing to check progress along the way will help them see their resume to completion. Students will use the checklist, (attached) to see if they have met all of the requirements.

 

                           Once resume is completed students will save final draft to hard drive and to a 3.5" floppy disk for future use.

 

                           Students will open Internet Explorer and access the Caljobs website.  Once they have entered through username and password students will post their resume according the website instructions.

 

Evaluation:        Teacher-made assessment, (Resume Checklist) and Teacher observation, (Access Caljobs website to view student completed resume).
