Description The New American Horizons video series illustrates effective teaching practices through real classes with immigrants and refugees. Volume one includes two videos: 1. Lesson Planning for Life Skills that shows the progression of the elements of a lesson on talking on the telephone. 2. Building Literacy with Adult Emergent Readers, which explores a whole-part-whole approach to teaching using a learner-generated story and demonstrates activities to develop beginning literacy skills for low-literate learners. Directions: 1. View the videos. 2. Take notes on the parts of a lesson plan and instructional techniques. 3. Submit a lesson plan using the elements from the video and include techniques that you will try (or have tried) with your students. 4. Return the video, lesson plan and evaluation form to the Northeast ABLE Resource Center and a Certificate of Completion will be sent to you.
