I, Too, Sing America would work well for new, emerging and developing readers. Each of the poems would lead to class discussions on a variety of topics and issues.

Comments:
Extension activities could include learners writing about their reflections of a poem or writing their own poem about a topic that means a lot to them. Other learns may choose to learn more about Langston Hughes and create a multimedia presentation featuring some of his poetry. A great comprehension and visualizing activity would be for learners to illustrate a poem using clip art or through drawing.
