Determine the reading purpose Discuss the concept of choking and pose questions around the causes, symptoms and prevention of an incident.
Select reading strategies appropriate to the purpose Students are reading for information to answer questions about choking.
Monitor comprehension and adjust reading strategies Describe and explain all the steps involved in the Heimlich maneuver, using the classroom chart or notes to clarify understanding.
Analyze information and reflect on its underlying meaning Students discuss how to prevent choking and practice the maneuver in pairs and individually.
