Determine the reading purpose Students are becoming aware of the need for information literacy as they evaluate sources for reliabilty and objectivity.
Select reading strategies appropriate to the purpose Students construct a list of criteria that can be used to evaluate credibility of information found in various sources.
Monitor comprehension and adjust reading strategies During this activity, they will evaluate multiple sets of text against the criteria.
Analyze information and reflect on its underlying meaning Students will make judgments about authenticity of information

As students are reading more and varied texts, they will need to know how to evaluate if sources are true. There are historical documents on the GED test to evaluate and make judgments about.

Each of us is confronted with more and more information that is readily available on the Internet and we must increase our information literacy levels in order to make informed decisions in our lives.

Building Expertise
After collecting information about the quilt codes, students write a paper in defense of what they believe to be true.
