Component of Performance How activity addresses component Determine the purpose for communicating Students want to learn some strategies to be successful when taking tests, especially the GED test. Organize and present information to serve the purpose, context, and audience They will make an outline or use a graphic organizer as they prepare to write their manual. Expository texts provide information and explain definition, categorization, comparisoncontrast, process, description, problemsolution or causeeffect. Pay attention to conventions of English language usage, including grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, to minimize barriers to readers' comprehension The manual will focus on agreement of grammatical structures and will include a range of sentence structures from simple to complex. Seek feedback and revise to enhance the effectiveness of the communication Several sources will proofread the manual and revisions will be made that support the main idea and correct grammatical conventions.

Purposeful, Transparent, Building Expertise

Purposeful and Transparent While in the ABLE classroom, students will be preparing for the GED test by taking various kinds of tests. This lesson identifies the important strategies students will need to master when taking tests. Contextual Using tests and test models, students will practice the strategies they are learning. Building Expertise Students are writing about test taking anxieties they have when they come into the ABLE classroom and then are reflecting on the strategies they have learned and will use when they take tests in the future.
