Standard Read with Understanding

Outcomes Students navigate through complex directions, assess complexity of college entrance test reading samples, record observations on a given evaluative rubric, and use critical thinking skills to synthesize their experience with complex text.

Purposeful, Transparent, Contextual, Building Expertise
Purposeful and Transparent
Reading levels become increasing more complex as students work through the educational process. Students wanting to continue to postsecondary education will need to be able to navigate through complex directions and text and further develop their critical reading skills.

Contextual
By using reading samples from college entrance tests, students become familiar with the types of reading they will be continually be asked to read with understanding in their courses.

Building Expertise
Students will gain mastery in using critical reading strategies of discriminate, evaluate and synthesize and discern readability statistics for various reading passages.
