Teaching Ideas:
Readers may want to keep a journal of their responses as they read this very moving story. Since the story is told from different perspectives, Reader's Theater would be an excellent strategy to use. Readers could try to retell one section of the story from a different character's point of view. Some students might like to research the accuracy of the activities of the Klu Klux Klan during this period. Research the accuracy of the telling about the Klu Klux Klan
