Teaching Ideas:
The photographs of this book are perhaps its most compelling feature and could be used as an introduction to many historical events. Teachers may want to excerpt vignettes of individual correspondents. Students may want to consider the role of journalists and photographers in chronicling history. Issues related to equal rights may also provide interesting discussion. Students might want to learn more about Margaret Bourke-White and Martha Gellhorn. For a WWW tour of a newspaper room, see The Write Site, http://www.writesite.org/; searching Yahooligans for WW II will yield dozens of links to more information.
