Summary:
Contrasting works of art are juxtaposed on facing pages to stimulate thought and discussion. The author includes brief biographies of the artists.

Teaching Ideas:
The paired paintings make excellent discussion and writing prompts to explore the connections between them, and what happened before the painting and what might happen after. Internet searches will yield other paintings by each artist. Once students grasp the concept of making connections, students can find other paintings or illustrations from magazines to create their own pairs. ESOL students will enjoy telling stories to go with individual paintings as well.
