Summary:
The author-illustrator employs paper collage to depict the many aspects of Mr. Everest--its geologic formation, the different zones of life and weather, and the history of exploration. The book includes a bibliography, a scaled chart of the world's 7 tallest mountains, and a list of records set on Mt. Everest.

Teaching Ideas:
The book joins a small text set on cold-climate exploration. Students could compare artic and Mt. Everest explorations with a Venn diagram. Students may be interested in excerpts from Into Thin Air about a recent Everest disaster. They may also want to conduct further inquiry into Nepal or Sherpas. Use the web sites below and the appended information at the back of the book to research other mountains and/or mountain climbers: www.achievement.org/autodoc/page/hil0pro_1; www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/everest/history/norgay.html; www.gorp/location/africa/tanzania/home_kil.htm; www.aconcagua.com
