Summary:
After years of lobbying, Sarah Hale, an editor and writer, won the battle to have Thanksgiving declared a national holiday. Back matter includes historical and biographical information. Adults may find the tone of voice and some illustrations childish and chatty in the first pages (superhero talk).

Teaching Ideas:
Readers might extrapolate the process Sarah pursues to win her battle to celebrate Thanksgiving nationally using graphic organizers of sequence or problem/solution. Would the process be different today? If so, in what ways? Readers could write to Sarah or write letters of support for her issues using the strategy of unsent letters. A class could create a news magazine of the events of the story and based on additional historical research with simulated interviews of Sarah.
