Summary:
Several National Geographic scientists/explorers are interviewed in a Q & A format. What makes the book such an interesting read is how they see themselves and their work. The book offers maps, fabulous photographs, and contact information for participation in projects around the world.

Teaching Ideas:
Although the format suggests excerpting sections, students may want to read the book in its entirety. The questions asked by the interviewers serve as a model for students to use on a local interview project. Since the questions remain the same for each person, learners could construct a matrix of the responses in order to compare and contrast them and to generalize about the skills and temperament required. Interested students will want to follow up on the check-it-out section websites and report back to the class.
