An exquisitly illustrated prose retelling of John Milton's famous poem Paradise Lost.

Teaching Ideas:
In addition to the strength of the writing of this retelling, there is the opportunity for teachers to introduce readers to the many other clasic works that have been adapted from the original forms. (See Romeo and Juliet in this database.) The rich, descriptive vocabulary invites study as does the figurative use of language. As in the original, Satan is a well-drawn, fascinating character. Learners might write a character sketch describing him. Advancd students could compare the description of Satan here with the original. Artistic students will want to illustrate a favorite descriptive passage or draw a map of Heaven, Earth, and Hell.
