Summary: |
The 14 paintings of a tree in various seasons and weather are accompanied by one or two descriptive sentences and a question that connects art with science. |
Teaching Ideas: |
This book has an unusual format and despite its intent to explain science through art, the emphasis is more about how to really look at a tree or see a painting. The book ends with an explanatory paragraph on each painting. ESL teachers will find this a rich source for language development. ABE teachers will find easy links to poetry or descriptive writing. Certainly the relationship between the pictures and feelings evoked would be interesting to explore. The questions provided with each painting could be used as discussion starters or used as journal topics. |
