Summary: |
This collection contains twelve stories about the impact of war on children and teenagers, some fictional, some personal experiences. A trailer with historical background crawls across the bottom of the page. Biographies of the authors are included. |
Teaching Ideas: |
These stories provide a high-interest introduction to historical events. Using the information at the bottom of the page, readers could search the Internet or the library for more information, personal accounts, and photographs. The stories deal with controversial issues which should lead to discussion and writing: conscientious objectors; gap between have's and have not's; racial prejudice; civilians vs military; and refugees. Learners who know friends or family who have experienced war and its aftermath can write their stories for a class book. Teachers will want to read the stories before using or excerpting them in class because some seem more authentic than others. |
