Teaching Ideas:
Teachers and students will enjoy unearthing the meaning and exploring the figurative language of the fables. More advanced students could discuss/write about the nature of these gods as depicted throughout the entire book. But most probably, teachers will be delighted in using the "that-is-why" conclusions as wonderful writing prompts for adults to create their own fables. Computer-savy students might enjoy searching online for information to write a biographical sketch of the author who combines teaching linguistics and writing with playing sax in a jazz orchestra and in a Dixieland-type band (See the back dust jacket).
