This book illustrates the phrases in the Pledge of Allegiance with photographs. Included is a description of what the pledge means (literally), dates to diplay the flag, and some basic flag history.

Teaching Ideas:
After reading about what the pledge means (literal interpretation), students could write what it means to them. Students could learn and share "flag etiquette" - demonstrate folding a flag in front of the class, appropriate way to hang a flag, etc. ESOL learners studying for citizenship will find the book interesting and useful. Readers might want to make a timeline from Betsy Ross's version of the flag to the present one.
