Summary: |
This picture book retells the familiar story made famous by the The Diary of Anne Frank of a young Jewish girl who goes into hiding with her family in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation in World War II. Although the book includes a few quotations from the diary, it also summarizes the political events of the time and relates what happened to the family. Illustrations add very little new insight. The Reading Group recommends using the book as an easy reading book in a text set on the Holocaust. |
Teaching Ideas: |
Readers could use the timetable of Anne's life to follow the major events of World War II and with a map trace Anne's journey. Rochman's Bearing Witness provides a variety of voices from the Holocaust to supplement the book.
