Summary:
One family in the USA begins an effort to help those in Europe suffering from the aftermath of WWII by sending shoes and other needed supplies.

Teaching Ideas:
Students could use this book to begin a discussion of the human costs of war. Students may be inspired to organize donations for a local charity or organization as a service project. This book is a model for writing. It is journal formatted and offers examples of many personal writing modes: letters, postcards, news articles, and notes and reminds instructors of the value and importance of personal writing.
