The author and 16 other poets respond in a variety of poetic forms to beautiful photographs of patterns created by ice.

Teaching Ideas:
Both the photographs and the poems make good prompts for discussion on how the poet got from the photograph to the poem and for student writing. Students may want to collect pictures with other subjects--rocks, water, snow--and respond by writing poems. The variety of poetic forms and uses of figurative language provide concrete, interesting examples to examine.
