Summary: |
This is a collection of illustrations and various types of text, all provided by noted authors and illustrators, that focus on issues related to peace. Many cultures are represented among characters and in illustrations. |
Teaching Ideas: |
Reading Group members found the contents uneven--some writing is too "preachy" or weak, but other pieces are outstanding. Teachers will want to read the book with their students in mind before using it. Most selections have rich writing/discussion possibilities. Perspective work is also possible, for instance by excerpting all the pieces about Japan and WW II and then asking learners to compare them. Free response writing or literature circle discussions would also be effective with many entries. |
