Summary:
The author's note describes this book on Harriet Tubman as a "fictionalized spiritual journey" comparing her answering the call of God to lead her people out of slavery to Moses leading the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt. The author includes a foreword and a biography.

Teaching Ideas:
Used in a text set on Harriet Tubman and/or the Underground Railroad, this book contributes a spiritual/religious point of view encouraging readers to reflect on Tubman's motivation. A discussion of the title should lead to a comparison of American slavery with the Egyptian slavery of the Israelites. Students might discuss the use of different type faces and Italics to indicate different speakers, songs, and unspoken thoughts in preparation for a choral reading or Reader's Theater.
