Readers can connect the story of Luba to current events by researching in newspapers and on the Internet to find out who were the "Luba's" of Rwanda, the tsunami, and hurricane Katrina. Learners might want to read the Epilogue about the 1995 reunion and then tell the story from a child's point of view. They might also want to brainstorm how Luba managed to get food to feed 50+ children every day. Advanced learners could explore the development of the book: research, interviewing, and creating dialogue and composite characters, something the author talks about in the author's note. | |
