Summary:
The authors and illustrator have created a story atlas of American history from the Ashinabe tribe to Viet Nam in which each double-page spread includes a narrative about an historical event, maps with numbered events, and fact boxes. Additional endnotes describe the research behind the facts. Teacher may need to provide help for some students with the various size text fonts.

Teaching Ideas:
The book lends itself to map study. Teachers may want to excerpt individual events to supplement other historical material or historical fiction. Students could try their hands at imitating the format for an historical event of interest that is not included. The authors' notes suggest a discussion about historical evidence and reporting conversations.
