Summary: |
In a scrapbook format, this book offers lots of interesting facts, Native American folktales, and traditional lore, all about the woods. |
Teaching Ideas: |
The book's cover looks a bit childish, but the content is interesting. This would be a good choice for use before a field trip to an outdoor spot or if the teacher wants to focus on careful observation. Comparison among different types of animals (e.g., food, shelter, defenses) will be possible. In family literacy programs, parents and children could make leaf collections. Some of the same animals and facts are included in Arnosky's Nearer Nature. |
