Teaching Ideas:
Students could choose one mini adventure and write about it in paragraph form. This could lead to a discussion of what visual effects contribute to the narrative. How do the characters of the brothers change? What details about the volcano are true and what fictional? Look at where meaning resides-- text? illustrations? both? why? Examine perspective in some of the illustrations. Students might want to talk about why certain ideas are illustrated as they are.
