Summary:
This is a collection of 12 poems about stars of the WNBA. An afterword explains how the poet found a focus for each poem by considering the woman's play.

Teaching Ideas:
The poems make wonderful performance reads, promoting fluency through repeated readings. Students can identify and classify the powerful verbs and visual images contained in the poems. Those who know the women's work might want to discuss/ write about the extent to which the poems capture the essence of the way these women play the game. Copy change using stars from other sports would be a natural extension. Pair with Hoop Kings by the same author.
