Summary:
These are short biographies of sports figures who have been featured on Wheaties boxes over the years. Subsections, organized by traits that contribute to success (commitment, grace, courage, team effort, and perseverance) are preceded by short essays about that characteristic in sports and in life. The volume is richly illustrated. The author includes a timeline that includes additional athletes.

Teaching Ideas:
Sports lovers will simply want to read biographies of their favorites. A web search on any name will yield additional biographical information. Teachers may want learners to consider all the people in a given section and to discuss or write about whether they agree that the people shared that characteristic. Biopoems or acrostics would provide a nice writing supplement. Since basketball is underrepresented, readers could research their favorites and write an essay modeled on the book.
