Teaching Ideas:
Illustrations are beautiful. Learners may want to examine them for 'ghostly' qualities. This book might make a good addition to a text set about traveling or life on the sea. Teachers might use it as a writing prompt for a group writing exercise to create a mystery. Although not a crtitical part of the story, the ghost ship appears to be part of the Confederacy, so the book may belong with Civil War volumes as well. The idea of a child 'saving the day' may also be of interest to learners.
