Teaching Ideas: |
This book is a welcome easier to read (if not easy read) to a text set on Eleanor Roosevelt. Because the book is told simply and directly, it makes a good model for teaching writing. Eleanor's relationship with her mother-in-law and her role as caretaker might be topics for discussion and writing that adult students identify with. Present students with a copy of the quotations from the book before reading. Ask them to decide on one that touches them personally and explain how/why. Research how Eleanor was different from most women of her time period. The text in this book could be transformed into a readers' theater script. |
