Summary:
This book intertwines the story of the day Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address with the events of the Battle of Gettysburg. Includes paintings, photographs and maps of the battle. There is a glossary and recommended reading in the back of the book.

Teaching Ideas:
The book talks about why the South lost this battle. Students could discuss what would have happened if the North had lost. Students can do a close reading of the Gettysburg Address and compare it with other famous wartime speeches. Students could construct a timeline of the major events of the war and investigate what other events took place during this time.
