This 40-page book contains excerpts from the journals of Audubon, along with his color paintings of birds. |
Teaching Ideas: |
Level 1 and 2 teachers may want to read this aloud, since it is quite interesting, but the language is archaic and syntax complicated at times. GED students may choose to work through the book independently. The difficulties Audubon faced in finding his calling might open up discussions on work and careers. Students may want to combine this book with bird study (using Lerner's Backyard Birds of Winter, for example), or animal study (using books by Bert Kitchen). Or they may want to look at other diaries, such as the Roop edition of Columbus' journal. |
