Teaching Ideas:
In an introductory note, the author describes the traditional Haiku poetry form of 17 syllables in three lines of 5-7-5, usually with a reference to a season. The visually beautiful collection provides an opportunity to study the use of figurative language and to write Haiku poems. Although the poems are brief, the figurative language may need some teacher-guided exploration.
