Teaching Ideas: |
Aside from its obvious uses in family literacy programs, this book provides excellent copy change possibilities: "Before I was _____". Students can alter time, place, and characters. What a wonderful introduction for a class project in family history. The book makes an engaging prompt for writing about childhood adventures AND misadventures that learners may want to share with their families. Or learners may want to focus on the descriptions of the role of the mother in their discussion and writing. What things does the mother choose to talk about and how does she reassure the child? Learners might reflect on how stories like these help a child develop a concept of time and a sense of belonging. |
